Authority Through the Holy Spirit

God speaks to us in numerous ways, there is no limitation to how He can reach us.  But, as a woman that grew up in church as a child and comes from a religious family, I did not realize the importance and power we had on earth with the power of the Holy Spirit living in us.  A scripture that God has shown to me twice within this past week is Job 22, specifically Job 22:28Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.  God revealed to me that my individual relationship with Him is more important than the religion I choose or the church I am affiliated with.

God’s Word repeats on numerous occasions about what God wants from us, He never states which religion or church for us to belong to.  James 1:26-27  If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.  Now, this post is not about religion vs. relationship vs. spirituality, this is about focusing on the authority we have over the enemy as long as we realize the Holy Spirit that lives in us.  By focusing on our relationship first with God, we are able to hear from Him what He wants us to do, how He wants us to move, think, love, and pray.  This occurs through reading the Word, Praying to God, and many other acts.  I am not knowledgeable yet, or may never be while here on earth, about why a lot of Christians do not use the authority God has given us.  It could be a trick of the enemy to make us focus on religion so that we are kept away from the true authority we have in God, perhaps?

But, back to the subject, realizing the authority we have over the enemy through the Holy Spirit that lives in us.  I spoke in tongues for the first time in 2014, but I did not have a relationship with Jesus Christ, I didn’t seek Him everyday.  My relationship with Jesus Christ started in 2019, when my world was turned upside down and I no longer had control over my environment.  God began to softly speak to me and show me the way.  As of today, 2021, I am now learning to tap into the authority I have over the enemy through the Holy Spirit that lives in me.  Through my Pastor that God has directed me to follow and a wonderful woman of God as a spiritual mentor, I am learning more about the authority I have.

In Job 22:28, it states that we can decree a thing and it shall be established unto us.  Let’s look at what decree means, according to dictionary.com decree means to order (something) by decree; similar words to decree are command, mandate, or order.  According to dictionary.com established means initiate or bring about.  So, Job 22:28 states we can command a thing and it shall be brought unto us.  Now, in Luke 9:1 it states, And he (Jesus) called the twelve (disciples) together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.  In reading these scriptures, I am learning day by day the authority I have over the enemy and his attacks against me, my husband, our children, my extended family, our finances, our home, our businesses, and our future generations.

As believers of God, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, we can not allow the fear, anxiety, worry, assumptions, denial or any other attack or trick that the enemy throws at us to deter us from who lives in us.  1 John 4:4 You are of  God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

The next scripture has so much more meaning but also reassurance.

Luke 10:16-20

He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.  Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”  And He said to them, “I saw satan fall like lightning from heaven.  Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.  Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

This scripture, spoken by Jesus Christ, reiterates God’s words in Job 22:28 that we have authority over the enemy and protection from God from the enemy.  It also reiterates that we shouldn’t rejoice in having control over spirits but instead rejoice that we have a guaranteed place in heaven.

Once we realize this authority we have, we have to teach our children so that the spiritual blessing is passed on from generation to generation.  We are not just humans walking around on this earth as we please, we are playing out roles that God ordained for us to fulfill His purpose and so that He always gets the Glory in every Victory.

Stand up strong in the authority you have through the Holy Spirit, be knowledgeable about this spiritual battle we truly are in everyday.  Do not move in fear, remain humble, and seek the Lord everyday.  1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!
